Hello all,
Lovely
catching up with all the stimulating conversations happening during my year
away on Maternity leave! And now, not even one week into it here at
Fanshawe College, I have a question myself:
Of the
colleges/universities that host famers’ markets, do you charge the
vendors/farmers for the use of the tables/retails space i.e. $ amount/table?
Cheers,
Mary-Lee

Hi
Mary-Lee,
We
have not charged the vendors for two reasons; our market is a new initiative
and we wanted to gain as much interest from local farmers as possible and also,
after doing some research we found that if broken down, farmers normally pay
about $20 per local market event. Since our market is not weekly or even
biweekly and we only host about a dozen vendors we didn’t think the charge was
necessary or worth the administration. We may revisit this decision in the
future.

We
don’t charge either; similar rationale to Melissa.

Hi Mary,
The Queen’s Farmers’ Market is run out
of our Hospitality Services department and it seem they do charge a fee of
$35/space/week. The market runs weekly from September to April.
Cheers!

Mary-Lee, Great question, we
have not, but are thinking of it going forward. Trish

We are new to this but do not charge. I think we feel lucky to get
folks out!

Our student federation hosts one every month
(first year they are trying it). I’m pretty sure it’s free for the farmers to
come, but not entirely sure. I know that they have hired someone external
to actually organize the event each month for them.

Hi Mary-Lee,
We are in the second year of our weekly market. We charge
$30/week per table which includes parking, and we also provide the tables so
vendors don't have to bring them.
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi
Mary-Lee,
Since
2010, the Business Development Office has hosted UTSC's Farmer’s Market,
running a weekly Outdoor Farmer’s Market from June-October and a monthly Indoor
Market from November-April. Vendors are charged $20/ space/week.
Thanks,
